The nationwide contest of historical knowledge 2014

In 2014 we were celebrating 2 important anniversaries in Polish history: the 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising and the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino.
To mark both occasions we had organised a Nationwide Contest of Historical Knowledge for the older students of Polish Saturday Schools in Great Britain (aged 14-17).
The grand final took place on the 19th  October 2014 at the POSK Theatre in London.
9 schools from across the country were represented in the final. We were very much honored by the presence of very special Guests: Anna Maria Anders, the daughter of Gen. Władysław Anders, Hanna Kościa and Marzena Schejbal, participants of the Warsaw Uprising, Karolina Kaczorowska, the wife of the late Polish President in Exile, Ryszard Kaczorowski and Polish Consul General, Ireneusz Truszkowski.

The competing students possessed a great level of knowledge of these events, their historical context as well as the iconography associated with them, as the questions involved mixed-media. Each participating school was represented by a team of 4 students, who have qualified following their school’s own internal elimination.

There were very attractive prizes for the winners, including a weekend in Warsaw! The competition winners’ list and a photo gallery from the event will be published here soon.
You can see the contests Competition rules here. (in Polish).

We are very grateful to all those who made the competition possible: the organising commitee: Małgorzata Lasocka (PES’ Vice-chair), Dorota Chmielewska, Wojciech Poza and Małgorzata Sztuka. The committee was supported by an amazing team consisting of teachers of the school who has initiated the contest as well as PES employees.

Special thanks to all the Sponsors:

We also thank one individual sponsor for their kind donation towards the competition.
Thank you to all the organisers, participants, sponsors and everybody else who made this event happen. We hope too see you all again next year!
